Ascension Parish Clerk of Court
Ascension Parish uses a unified Clerk of Court rather than separate county and district clerks. Bridget Hanna is the current Clerk. The official biography states that she has more than 42 years of public service in the Clerk's office, began as a Court Minute Clerk, became Supervisor in 1989, Chief Deputy Clerk in 2004, and became the first female Clerk of Court in Ascension Parish in 2015.
The same biography says Hanna was re-elected unopposed in 2015, 2019, and 2023. It also identifies her as a Certified Clerk of Court and Certified Elections Administrator. The office is more than a court-record window. It also serves as ex-officio recorder, chief elections officer, voting-machine custodian, Jury Commission member, and Board of Supervisors of Elections member.

What the Clerk Does
The Ascension Parish Clerk of Court serves as clerk for District Court and Parish Court. The office receives and maintains court filings, indexes civil and criminal matters, records deeds and mortgages, manages marriage-license records, supports jury functions, and provides public access computers at both office locations.
- Civil Department: civil suits, adoptions, successions, appeals, pleadings, citations, writs, subpoenas, exhibits, and costs.
- Criminal and Minute Clerks: formal charges from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney, felony and misdemeanor cases, bench warrants, extradition, expungements, background checks, juvenile confidentiality, and court minutes.
- Recording Department: deeds, mortgages, UCC filings, cancellations, liens, property transfers, and preservation of recorded instruments.
- Marriage License Department: marriage applications, license records, and certificate copy routing.
- Jury Department: random juror selection, weekly civil and criminal panels, and jury-duty processing under judicial authority.
The Clerk Jury Department page explains juror selection and jury-duty routing.
Jury duties are part of the Clerk's court-support role, separate from the office's record-copy and recording services.
Request Certified Copies
Certified copies are used when the requester needs an official Clerk-certified document for court, property, identity, benefits, or business purposes. The Clerk's e-services page says users may purchase and download PDFs or purchase certified copies through eClerksLA. In-person requests and public access computers remain important when an online search does not expose the full record or when the user needs staff help identifying the file.
- Identify the record type: civil, criminal, traffic, marriage, mortgage, conveyance, map, or historical record.
- Gather the case number, instrument number, book and page, party names, filing date range, or marriage names if known.
- Use eClerksLA, the Ascension Clerk online access menu, or public access computers to confirm the record location.
- Contact the correct Clerk department before ordering if the record may be sealed, juvenile, expunged, archived, or restricted.
- Confirm current copy, certification, and delivery charges because the visible official pages reviewed did not publish every amount in text.
Records Request Fields
No single public Clerk request form covered every record type in visible text. The fields below are the practical identifiers supported by the Clerk's department descriptions and online access notes. More complete information usually means faster routing.
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Record type | Yes | Civil, criminal, traffic, marriage, mortgage, conveyance, map, or other record category. |
| Case or instrument number | If known | Best identifier for court and recorded documents. |
| Party names | Yes | Use full names for plaintiffs, defendants, spouses, decedents, grantors, or grantees. |
| Filing or recording date range | Helpful | Narrows searches when no case number is known. |
| Document requested | Yes | Examples: judgment, petition, marriage certificate, mortgage, conveyance, or minute entry. |
| Copy type | Yes | Plain copy, PDF, certified copy, or in-person inspection. |
| Requester contact and delivery method | Yes | Needed for follow-up, cost quote, pickup, mail, or online delivery. |
Ascension Parish Clerk Fees
The Clerk states that the office is self-funded by statutory fees for recordings, certified copies, and civil or criminal proceedings. The official pages reviewed also cite Louisiana advance-cost and accrued-cost statutes for civil matters. Public text did not expose every local dollar amount, so the safest record request includes a cost confirmation step before ordering.
| Item | Official amount or status |
|---|---|
| Civil advance costs | Collected under Louisiana Revised Statutes 13:842; local amount not visible in readable public text reviewed. |
| Accrued costs | Authority cited under Louisiana Revised Statutes 13:843. |
| Certified copies and PDFs | eClerksLA says users may buy PDFs or certified copies; Ascension-specific price not visible in public text reviewed. |
| Online access | eClerksLA offers subscription and daily access; exact visible Ascension price was not found on the Clerk page. |
| Criminal fees and expungement forms | Linked by the Criminal Department page; PDF detail was not readable in local research text. |
Clerk Departments and Forms
The Clerk's department pages route users to the forms and service areas most often tied to court records. Civil users should look for civil filing fees, divorce checklist forms, petition for divorce downloads, court rules, local rules, and civil e-filing. Criminal users should look for criminal fees, expungement forms, background-check routing, and Criminal/Minute Clerk contacts.
- Civil Department for civil suits, successions, appeals, divorce forms, costs, and civil e-filing.
- Criminal and Minute Clerks for formal criminal charges, bench warrants, expungements, and minutes.
- Recording Department for conveyance, mortgage, UCC, cancellation, and bond-related records.
- e-services for eClerksLA, e-filing, e-recording, marriage applications, alerts, PDFs, and certified copies.
Louisiana State Police registry information is a separate official public-safety record channel, not a Clerk case-file search.
Separate state registries should not be confused with Clerk-maintained civil, criminal, marriage, and land records.
Online Access and Limits
The official Ascension Clerk online access landing page is login-gated. The research found that full searches require a User ID and password or an eVaultLA daily-access or subscription route. The Clerk e-services page also says parish record search can include mortgage, conveyance, map, criminal, traffic, civil, and marriage records.
Some public records are not Clerk records. Jail deposits, custody, state registries, federal appeals, and federal bankruptcy each use separate official systems. For example, a commissary deposit portal may relate to a person in custody, but the Clerk's office is still the source for filed court pleadings, minutes, judgments, and certified court documents.
The jail commissary deposit portal is separate from Clerk record access.
That contrast helps requesters avoid using a custody-service site when they actually need a court case file or certified copy.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit is the official federal appellate court for federal matters from Louisiana.
Federal appellate records are outside the Ascension Parish Clerk's custody and must be searched through federal court systems.
